Corporate Social Responsibility has many facets. We have highlighted a number of them that SHI gives special attention to.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is an international non-profit organization committed to conservation and responsible forest management worldwide. FSC® speaks of responsible forest management when the ecological, social and economic aspects of forest management are taken into account in a balanced manner.
FSC® supports small farmers and indigenous peoples with their activities.
The most trusted certification for sustainable forest management.
Provides detailed information about the sources of packaging materials.
FSC® ensures high conservation values in endangered forests.
FSC® promotes sustainable management of reforestation areas.
Packaging with the FSC® logo is a testament to our sustainability values.
SHI works together with the ORO foundation, which employs a group of disabled people in our organisation for light packaging work. With this collaboration, SHI wants to contribute to allowing people with disabilities to actively participate in society.
Waste is separated into different streams at SHI. To limit the flow of cardboard, transport boxes are reused. In addition, we are affiliated with Wecycle through various foundations to dispose of and recycle the end-of-life products of consumers in an environmentally responsible manner.
Our employees can deposit their empty cans and plastic bottles in the container provided for this purpose. The full containers are collected and we receive the deposit back. We then donate the proceeds to the charity KiKa, a Dutch foundation that raises money for important scientific research into childhood cancer.

The products that SHI imports comply with European and National legislation such as The RoHs and the Weee, the EMC and Low Voltage Directive. But also with regard to the REACH legislation (presence of harmful chemicals). To substantiate the above requirements, we collect reports and certificates that are kept in the technical files. During the random inspections during production, essential quality and safety aspects are checked, but also working conditions are taken into account.
In addition, we attach great importance to the conditions in which our Far East supplier produces. To check and track this, SHI has joined Amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). Amfori BSCI is committed worldwide to improving working conditions in the production chain of its members. Companies that are affiliated with the Amfori BSCI implement the BSCI Code of Conduct in their chain.
The BSCI approach is based on the following three core activities:
Amfori BSCI is not a certification system, but a process that helps the supplier step by step to improve working conditions. The audit cycles are restarted every three years to continuously test compliance with the required standards and the effect of the implemented corrective action plan.
